I'm trying to gain access to mininova or thepiratebay. Haven't tried for a while but noticed that I can't get onto them. I tried http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/mininova.org and it tells me its down for just me... Are UPC blocking sites? Also do Eircom/others do this already?

    Fine here on 20mb package

Why might I not be able to gain access to those sites? My router has no blocked sites.

I have UPC 20MB. Mininova is blocked. Anyone know which service suppliers are not blocking torrent sites so I can tell UPC to stick their account up their arse.

Think UPC are having DNS issues.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭GalwayKiefer

On the 20meg package in Galway and couldn't get onto either for the first few attempts a few mins ago but both working ok now. I couldn't access boards last night for a while either so maybe it is a DNS issue like timmy69 says.

I'm based in Galway also, perhaps its a localised problem with some server they have over this side...

Timmy how do you know they are having issues - did you ring them or hear from them?

Looking at the tracert results above, the first hop times out, points to an issue at you're end on the PC. Id check for malware/Spyware.

funny, i'm having mininova issues too.

it's not UPC DNS related as I've never used their DNS (using level3 DNS).

it's weird though, the page half loads, i just lose some of the formatting and background and stuff, all the text and links are still there on a white background with no graphics at all.

it's actually been like that for a few weeks, but i was thinking it might just be me so i haven't mentioned it before.

i actually just changed to opendns for a minute and mininova is loading normally again, but i've just changed back to level3 dns and it's still working, so i've no idea what it was. working fine now for me, so maybe try changing to another dns provider.

if you're using opendns (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220) change to level3 (4.2.2.1 up to 4.2.2.6) and try again and then change back and see how it is then?

It means nothing. A lot of routers dont allow ICMP by configuration.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

most routers will allow a traceroute to be performed from their GUI if you want to try it there.

also, i'm having the same issue again with mininova, so i think it might be an issue with level3 DNS. its not enough of an issue for me to change though, i hardly use it and it doesn't seem to be affecting other sites.
