    Hey

Planning a trip to prague and this is the cheapest hotel:

    Best Western Hotel Selsky Dvur

I just looked it up on google maps though, and clicked the street view ...

it looks like it's situated in the middle of a housing estate!!

Or am I just being ignorant and is that what prague is like?

Is this place anywhere near the city? Where it's all at?

You are not being ignorant at all rather observant I would say. That hotel is situated in the suburbs of Prague and it a fair bit away from the City Centre, also it is not a "Best Western" hotel rather they are just selling rooms on behalf of the Prague chain of hotels called "EuroAgentur" As you can see from the hotel's page.

I actually stayed in a EuroAgentur hotel in 2008 but it was more in the city centre and it was fine, not exactly the most romantic or luxurious but very adequate and cheap as chips, plus I had the tram straight outside and metro 100 metres up the street.

Your hotel is very on the edge of the city think of that hotel as being located at the Red Cow roundabout or Tallaght with touristy Prague being O'Connell Street. It is also on the opposite side of the city for the airport meaning a taxi would cost more, but if landing in daylight public transport is the way to go unless you have a massive load of luggage etc.

Prague is great and I will actually be there next week, I got a cheapish deal of Lastminute about a month ago for a far more central location costing roughly €46.50/night. Prague has one of the best public transport systems in the World and is very explorable city, there is lots to do and see with loads of culture and great nightlife. The crown is also quite weak against the Euro and there economy is not doing so good so now is a great time to visit. Websites like lastminute and ebookers are usually much cheaper to book that booking direct from the Hotel themselves too so bear that in mind also.

    Ciao

Book yourself a private room here, as good as a hotel. ;)

Try the Ibis in Prague Old Town.

Bar the uncomfortable beds it was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in and shockingly cheap for what it was.
