Im looking for an amazing wedding venue in Dublin, Louth or Meath area.

I've had my heart set on Lisloughrey Lodge in Mayo and now can't have the wedding there.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the perfect alternative? Everything I look at I compare to Lisloughrey and don't like, I've looked at loads.

    Thank you!!:):)

Hi! If you are still willing to consider Mayo, Mount Falcon is fantastic I was there with my sister. It was her favourite for her wedding venue. it is around the same price and conditions as Lislougney AFAIK.

    Good luck

    Thank you!

I am actually looking around Dublin now as we can't get married in the Church we want in Mayo! (Long story)

We looked at Carton House and the K Club at the weekend - both were absolutely lovely however I do wish there was a venue like Lisloughrey on this side of Ireland!!

Carton House was lovely - except we had to wait 20 minutes for a cup of coffee (!!) so now I am worried about the service.

The K Club was fab - but the rooms for guests to stay overnight are crazy expensive and I think it's a bit unfair to ask people to pay such a high price.

Also, I don't know if any brides can help me out, but in Carton the bar is outside the ballroom. We are having 110 guests. I am worried that all the guys will be out at the bar and nobody will be left in the room. Has anyone experienced this problem? Or was it OK on the day?

    :D:D

I'm not aware of the original venue you have suggested but have you looked at Barberstown Castle of Finnstown House.

The Bar service in the Reception area is pretty slow however the service at our reception there was spot on. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being overly so. Everything happened on time as planned. No complaints from me about our wedding there, fantastic :D.

Service is fine in carton house, Ive played it a few times and a friend had his there and he couldnt say enough about the place. A few people tend to stay out drinking but not too much if the entertainment is good.

Ive commented elsewhere on barberstown, avoid for entertainment purposes.

The johnstown has been a marriott for years, thats decent, but maybe not as classy as other places.

If youre going for the scenic look, try other golf clubs, roganstown perhaps, or big places with huge landscaped gardens like the radisson in stillorgan.

Brook lodge is another very scenic place, probably one of the best venues for lending itself to atmosphere, might be a bit far south but if everyone is staying over then why not. waterford castle, further again but very scenic.

Powerscourt House is a beautiful venue- Just don't let Fitzers do the catering.

barberstown is a great venue, whoever said avoid it for entertainment purposes must of experience a bad band.

Had our wedding there and a good few friends weddings there. Great staff, great food great venue with open fires.

Get a good band and you have the floor full all night in there.

Only once experience a quiet dance floor there and thats because of the band.

When were looking for a band for Barberstown we told them we were worried about the shape of the room, all the bands said they had played before there and if your good enough you get the floor full easily.

The feel to the place is just brill!

I made the comment about barberstown, I play in a band and DJ at weddings for nigh on 12 years, Ive played barberstown as both many times. The venue is nice, the food and staff are nice but the room is wrongly set up for acoustics. People like to see the band + DJ and dance floor, if a song comes on they like they dont have to run around the corner to see the band play it.

But the problem isnt even that the bar is not in the room, theres seats not facing the band. The people round the corner cant you hear you very well, and if you turn up its too loud for the ones in front of you. Ive no great problem with barberstown itself, seem lovely, but of every venue I would play I can only think of maybe 1-2 others that have the same issue, and both of those have similar layouts where the seating/bar arrangements are not in sight of band/dj.

Its only my personal opinion formed from many years playing nearly every venue in the country but bear in mind 2 other DJs have echoed the same sentiment.

I didnt say people werent dancing when I played there though. ;)
