    Hi,

I have a friend who is studying in DBS and was told about the procedure for the big 4 interviews. He was told there were 4 rounds of interviews, with one of the rounds being a team assignment where, only one of the team would advance onto the next round of interviews... i.e. made work together as a team and then compete against each other to advance. Could this be true?

Also are the big 4 taking people on this year, or should he even bother applying?

    anyone being through it?

    thanks

We've had some of the big four into our college (NCI) and they are hiring this year, just in smaller quantities. Ranging from 20 people across four departments to 6 people across four departments. The main area that they are hiring in is in auditing.

On the interview process, I know that PWC (last year) had just a 2-3hour long interview (but that was just for a summer position). KPMG are doing two sets of interviews and a business problem that you have to solve...

Was your friend high and watching Battle Royale at the time?! The Big 4 are taking people on, although not as much as in previous years. I reckon. For example, I know of one who are not taking on any Tax at all.

Plenty of info on last years milkround in these two threads by the way; well worth a read if you're applying at the mo:

    Sounds like rubbish.

I'm working in one of them and helping out in recruitment this year visiting colleges etc. HR has told us that they are taking on people for direct entry in Audit (ie entry in 2010) but in smaller numbers than previous year. The main number of places will be for 2011 entry and that they will sponsor people on Masters for entry in 2011. The numbers being taken on for tax is v.small in 2010 but they are recruiting for 2011 entry and sponsoring these on a Masters/PDA. There is always a point in at least filling out the application forms. Closing date 16 October for NUIG students and 22 October for everyone else. Look on websites for exact interview procedures as all four differ but most involve an interview with a manager and a partner and then a business exercise to be done individually.

Best of luck with it. And best of luck if you actually win a place. That's when you'll need it!
