I used to be full time employed, now I am on the job seekers alowance. I have been offered a 8 hour contract but may get more hours each week. Obviously this would not be enough to support me. I am getting full benefit from job seekers. Will this effect how much I get every week from them?

AFAIK you can apply to be moved to casual working allowance (not sure of exact term).
I was in same situation as yourself, after a period of unemployment I got offered p/t work. I advised SW office, provided the info they requested (letter from employer confirming, etc) and the put me on "casual".

Basically I got these certs which had each day of the week on - I marked what days I worked and got them stamped by employer. i then dropped these into the SW office each week. They divide your dole amount by 6 (mon-sat) - this is your daily allowance. Whatever days you work is deducted, and you get the remainder in dole.
    Eg €204 p/w = €34 per day.
you work 2 days = €68 of allowance. So €68 is deducted from the €204, and that is what you get, €136

but it is per day, not hourly, so if you work 8 hrs over 2 days you get 2 days deducted. If you worked 12 hours in one day you get 1 day deducted. A bit mad and unfair i know, but sure that is to be expected!

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give more definitive advice than this, but I hope this is of some help! :)
