Overheating Toshiba

My toshiba shuts down due to overheating after about 10 mins of use. I have tried spraying compressed air into the vents but it only gives the usage time another 5 mins before it overheats again.

I googled the problem and it says I need to open up the laptop and clean the heatsink.

I'm just wondering, is there a good chance of me seriously f*cking the laptop up if I do this. I'm not completely computer illiterate but I amn't a big techie.

If it is too complicated, how much would i be charged for repair? I'm completely broke so budget is an issue

    Cheers

How old is your Toshiba? Model? Warranty expired? Need more details.

There was one with a relatively large CPU (3.3 gigs) before Duos, and had large fans that would draw in dust that tended to overheat after about 2 years of use (design defect), but that laptop is about 4-5 years old. It needs to be more often cleaned and thermal greased than normal, and may need one or both fans replaced.

    awesome find there blue.

Only thing you have to avoid is knocking around a transitor or something. Static electricty can be an issue if youre statically charged but that is a simple fix. Just run your hands along some bare metal, like your radiator, or the sink faucet. problem solved.

Oh and be OCD about the screws. Try and keep them in order or youll go crazy putting them back in :P good luck! This operation is a hundred times simpler on your laptop than the vast majority out there.
