A balance board won't help you speed up your turns.

A little "up and down motion" (known as compression under different systems) would help. Very hard to explain in words on an internet forum!!

Basically try to extend your knees slightly going into the turns and bend them slightly coming out of the turns. Practice will help a lot, and don't be tempted to use counter rotation or jumping the board around.

Wish I could show you what I am talking about, but I can't!! Makes me want to be back instructing again

On the plus side, the fact that your turns are a little slow shows that you haven't used any bad habits to speed up your turns!

haha paul you broke that balance board thingy last night! solid session!

regarding the thread. it probably wouldnt help you speed up/ improve your carving technique, but a lot of core work with excercise balls and balance boards would help your own conditioning and the more you do, the lower you can get your center of gravity - make you more stable and in control. so if oyu want to do it, it wouldnt hurt!

i used to use them to help regain my balance after i wrecked my ankle (constantly dislocating tendons) but thats completely void in a boot...
