are they M-Sport? He is asking 16K straight sale price, thinking of offering 15.

Not worth €15k. Manual 520 with cloth - €11 - €12 tops. Don't care if it's M or not, cloth and manual kill it.

Can i get your opinion on this http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=200935195057537

Whats it worth? Bad points i think are, doesn't have leather, no mention of service history, manual.

    Thanks.

    X.

I know its not the question you were asking, but you must be mad going for a 2.2 petrol at the moment. I think tax on petrol is going to go through the roof in the next budget. Theres an M sport 520 D as well and theres plenty of them on the market also. That one your looking at is lovely looking though, I can see the attraction.

Cant imagine getting it for 11K.

looks a nice clean motor... very nice...
but the cloth and the petrol is a killer,
Personally I would take the manual over the suto in that car, IMHO a better drive.. think 15 is a fair price, but you should be able to haggle down to 14.5

the diesel with leather is way to go... but it will be very hard to get a good one for the year and budget of €15k....

14k-15k tops.... it's a great looking car on the outside, but the interior is a joke at that money.

The size of the engine isnt the sole driver of fuel economy. 2.2l isnt the big leagues.

Considering 60% of new cars are diesel, it would be fiscally more logical to introduce a heavy diesel fuel tax in the next budget. Taxing Petrol out of the forecourt will simply lead to less tax income as the number of petrols reduce even further.
Whats your logic for the reverse being true?

totally agree. gotta have leather!! manual/auto is your own choice. whichever you prefer is more important than resale value IMO

I know it's a late post but that definitely isn't an original 'M'. The standard cloth seats and the lack of the M-tech steering wheel are the giveaways. Also, there would be very few '04 registered M-Sport's, as they were only launched towards the end of that year.

    ^^^ +1

defo not a real m-sport - it would have half leather at least, sports seats, not se ones and as far as I know carbon fiber not wood effect trim.

may not be all thats amiss with it - money seems strong for an 04 petrol imo.

the carbon fibre trim is an upgrade, the wood trim is an option too so that wouldnt throw me on the SE or M-Sport versions, but what does is the seats as mentioned above, also doesnt have the M-Sport steering wheel or M-Sport Gear knob and gaiter and M-Sport Handbrake cover.

    heres a genuine M-Sport interier below -

    note the following :
    1. chunkier msport steering wheel
    2. shorter msport gearknob and preferated gaotor
    3. matching preferated handbrake cover
    4. and half leather seats which are standard on the M-Sport 5 series iirc

for some reason, I don't think leather or half leather seats are standard options on M-Sport...

R.O.R. knows his stuff. If you don't think it's even possible, there's no chance of it happening.

I had a look at it over the weekend, looks great from the outside but the interior does let it down, dont thinks its an M-Sport either. The hunt continues, may have to goto UK.

Fair good deals in the North, too. And they are usually maintained, nursed and well kept.

    /M

Their prices are too high in the North, nearly as bad as the dealers here.

on the E90 3 series, Alcantarra is standard on M-Sport, leather an option.
on the E60 5 series, im not 100% sure, but the lowest i have ever seen a genuine Msport having is the half leather.

thats because the UK car market has bounced back a little. theres people over on e90post.com selling their cars now for the same price they bought a year ago. then of course today they announce that UK house prices rose inSept/Oct, so all the signs of a little boost over there.

best of luck in your search for the right M-Sport!

+ BMW have just taken nearly €8,000 off the cost of a new 520d M-Sport so that is going to have to have an effect on any cars Irish BMW dealers have on their forecourts.

I put that to a dealer today who was asking 16K for a 04 520i - he wouldnt move on the price, said it wont affect 2nd hand prices

Why would you bother with a 2.2 520i? You'll tax a 525i for the same money. You'll also get pretty much the same mpg but you'll have a much livelier car for your money.

im not limiting myself to a 520i, would prefer a 523 or 525, just not as many around.
