Are there any netbooks out there with hdmi that can output full hd? Looking to play .h264 or .m2ts files on a 42’’ tv without any stuttering. Thanks

720p would be the best you'd be able to run on one IMO..

1080p requires a pretty high end pc/laptop to run it,But I stand corrected.

There is a large variety of HD content out there. In terms of resolution, H264 profile and level, bitrate, exact encoding settings etc.

A standard netbook (with Atom) and the CoreAVC decoder should just about manage a lot of typical 720p content, with some tweaking. Although like I say, it depends entirely on the specifics of the movie, im sure you will come across plenty of stuff that doesnt quite play smoothly.

To guarantee playback of all 720p and 1080p content, you'd want a netbook with the Nvidia Ion GPU. This will accelerate H264 etc and take most of the load off the weak Atom CPU. They are only just starting to be released now - hang on a few weeks and most of the first batch should be available (one or two already are). Most or all of them have HDMI.

hp dm3 will be out in a few weeks too. it's a bit more than a netbook - great machine and will be reasonably priced (around $600). coming out around the same time is the hp mini 311 - a netbook with ion graphics should do 720p easily (will be priced around $400). dm3 probably worth paying the extra for as you could use it as a fully-fledged home laptop also and it's almost as light as a netbook.

After nvidia's last abysmal failure, with the Nvidia 7s 8s and 9s (most or all of them manufactured defectively) I'd be wary about hopping aboard a brand spanking new product line of theirs.
