Can any one recommend me a course/class that might help me progress into this area?

You might want to check out the above - It's meant for non finance managers, but I believe it's tough enough.

    Hiya,

I've a Masters in Finance (1.1) and Business Studies degree (2.1) (w/risk mgmt and insurance) and during both would have had some accounting modules.

Just wondering could I apply for graduate accounting roles (getting desperate not much else out there!) or would I be dismissed out of hand because I didn't major in accountancy?

By all means apply. The big four are known for taking on graduates with no accounting backgrounds at all. Be quick though, big four deadlines for applications are tomorrow.

Also apply for some of the smaller firms. I don't know when their deadlines are though. Good luck.

I'll get right on it! Thanks a mill.

Best way to get into finance would be the technician route and then ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CPA.
Easier to get into finance with a technician qualification than a degree.(talking about industry now)

Our firm sponsored a group of us to take the CIMA Certificate in Financial Accounting through BPP. I found it to be a good basic introduction. However, I could have been pushed harder, so maybe there is a better/more advanced course.

A few days ago Engineers Ireland (IEI) sent me an email promoting a link up between themselves and CIMA - it allows IEI members to study for a CIMA certificate in business accounting.

I don't know anything about it but it might be of interest to you if you're in the IEI. Here's a link...
