I received an invite from An Post to submit my details on a new online shopping directory that they are launching in November. Details are here. Its a free service (I guess they are trying to encourage more online purchases which will lead to more items being posted) and all you need to do is send an eMail to onlineshopping@anpost.ie with 20 word profile and .jpeg logo.

Not sure what it will deliver, but I have submitted my details.

A great idea. Now if only An Post would come up with some better postage plans for e-commerce businesses in Ireland.

For example: set payment plans for a specific number of posted items up to an agreed weight so we can offer customers a much simpler and competitive postage rate. It drives me crazy that I can put two of a certain product we sell in an envelope side by side and it is classed as large envelope rate. Yet if I put the same two items in a smaller envelope on top of each other it is classed as packet rate!

The ability to print out our own postage labels as Royal mail offer in the UK would also be welcome.

I know how you feel Strings - I split something into two packages earlier on this week to save postage - now that makes perfect sense to charge less for carrying two pieces

Yep - I got a note from An Post too. Looked a bit spammy to start with with but after a few tos and fros with them it seemed kocher enough. It was free to get listed and I guess in these days and times every little helps

Hear's another one, www.space.ie, it's a seachable directory of Irish online shops. We've been on it since Oct, plenty of traffic. You can also list up to 10 of your products for free. Being a search engine it's a bit of fun to play with, check it out.

I can't find anything on this I Love Shopping site about delivery. I assume everything is delivered via An Post. There has been no mail delivery in my area from 24 Dec to 30th December inclusive. The sorting office is also shut. That's almost one week closure including the busiest sales period in the year. I am waiting for a Christmas present which has been in the sorting office since last week. I don't see how this is supportive of online shopping.

    Hi "Alwayson"

You don't have to use An Post to deliver the products.

Its an advertising site that an post are providing hoping that some of the online retailers use their services.

It is operated by An Post marketing and has absolutely zilch to do with the delivery services.

Last mail was delivered on 24th December. 25th &26th are bank holidays, but as they fell on sat & sun, the holidays are moved to Monday & Tuesday.

Then today is the "extra" day of the holidays that all bank & post workers (and many more get) - so tomorrow is really the first day back for most monday to friday workers.

And in afirness to an post, I saw some of their staff delivering on the evening of 23rd Dec.

Thanks for explaining but in my opinion its much too long for a national postal service to be completely closed down. By the way the package I am referring to was sent from the UK by Airsure so it links up with the Irish postal system. It took 3 days to get from the UK to Ireland despite the weather and airport closures there last week. Tomorrow will be its 7th day in Irish postal space. At least its not perishable!

tomorrow will be the third working day it has been in the irish system - you can't count weekends and public holidays!

the uk service is closed for the same time as is the french service - do postal workers not deserve a couple of days off at christmas?

You also have to understand that weather conditions were atrocious in the week up to christmas and add to this the phenomenal amount of mail at this time of year.

in reality you are being completely unreasonable !

Is this thread monitored by An Post staff? Sorry if I'm being unreasonable, but I intend to become more and more unreasonable about everything that has passed for acceptable service in Ireland up to now. Checked Royal Mail website and their workforce is well up and running by now. Ah well, hopefully my package will arrive tomorrow.

this is a business thread, so you will get responses from people who are in business rather than consumers who may give you a nicey nicey response. As someone who operates three webstores, I have a full understanding of delievery services & issues.

yes, I'd avoid gls, but An Post have been superb this year as have DPD (my preferred carrier). But everyone has to understand that the weather caused major delivery problems particulary in the "last mile" (from depot to receiver) as many non main roads wewre treacherous.

just because someone gives you the truth about a situation and you don;t like it, don't accuse them of working for the company. You may not like the truth, but hell, its better than being fobbed off with crap excuses.
