    Hello,

I was thinking of volunteering this year for the xmas dinner in the RDS. I would like to have some feedback from anyone who has volunteered before, namely was it enjoyable nad worthwhile.

I was browsing on the web and it appeared a little holy for me so i'm not sure whether I would fit in or not. Basically I would like to help out but I don't want to feel as if I wouldn't fit in as well.

    Thanks
    Ed

To be honest given that this is the very first paragraph on their website I'd say you may not fit in
We are an Order of Catholic laymen dedicated to the service of Christ in daily life, in the workplace, the marketplace, in City, Urban and Provincial areas.

We welcome into our ranks Catholic men, in full communion with the Church, who would wish to bring to the service of Christ their talents and skills towards the promotion of Christian values and principles in Society, for the greater Honour and Glory of God the Father.

They may not approve of somebody who cannot be bothered to write the word "Christmas" properly.

actually - I think to be involved on the day you don't have to swear fealty to the Knights of Columbanus :-) My understanding is that you just have to turn up on Christmas morning at about 10am in RDS and you'll be given work to do - either packing lunches, delivering lunches or helping serve dinner. Some friends of mine did it last Christmas and said it was a really worthwhile way to spend Christmas morning

    Hi

I went to the rds last christmas to help out with the christmas dinner. It was worthwhile but there were so many volunteers that they didn't really have enough for everyone to do, there was nearly as many volunteers as homeless.

Im thinking of going to a old folks home this year instead, im sure there are alot of old people that dont see any family on christmas day.

If you go to http://www.knightsofstcolumbanus.ie/home.php and click on the Christmas Day Dinner Link you will see instructions on how to register in order to volunteer.

I know last year had a lot of people turn up and I think that's why this year they seem to be doing pre-registration to prevent the same happening.
