Those everybody on this love the way we can never get a pc when you need one in main campus???

There either shut off for no reason/all classes filled in IT building or your kicked out of the learning centre because theres supposed to be a class in there.

I suppose we had to pay €1600 to get have pcs available!

Have you considered politely asking a lecturer could you do some college work on a PC in the back of the room if there is one available? ;)

    Obviously!!!!
But why should we have to interupt other classes. (and where i am the pcs are rubbish anyway ie engineering building)
Its a joke Kieran Byrne can spend 157000 on his office but we cant get pcs that work and half the ones that do wont run our software as there really old!

Ask at the start of a class, as the lecturer is walking into the room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Clano

    again obviously!
Im in the college 4 yrs i know how it works thanks.
All im saying is that its rediculous that we're paying such high fees and cant get a pc when we need one.

yeah i agree, we shouldn't have to ask, when 9/10 lecturers say no anyways.

most pcs don't work, or you spent an hour trying to find a free room when you do its full.

the whole college is a shambles wit its lack of computers anyway, how are we meant to find information for FYP's without the use of a computer or internet. Id love to know what their goin spendind the registeration fees on since the parking is a right joke too and they arent doin antin about that either

I would dare you to find and enrole in a college/institution that doesn't have the same problems WIT does. :D Is there a "squeaky clean" institution out there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Clano

nah be kinda stupid considering im nearly finished my course here just to pack up and leave and start a new one just to prove you wrong or right.:D

Its been like that for the last 5 years and its not likely to change. Its a bit worse this year as they are down two labs in addition to others not being properly connected. But your never going to get enough labs to meet requirements.

I'm sorry but this is the most ridiculous complaint I've ever heard about WIT. There isn't a single campus in the country with enough computers. Now fair enough a lot of the computers might be out of action or might be slow but compared to when I was first in WIT it's a technological wonderland. There was a handful of computer rooms with a handful of working computers and queues half-way into town to use them (And the library and canteen). An IT building? Modern software? No such thing.

The fact is regardless of the whole office redecorating shambles, WIT has been utterly transformed in the last ten years. Of course it's not perfect but it's better than most if not all the other Institutes of Technology. Besides the IT building is practically empty after 5 anyway.

As a student who spent a year in CIT, getting access to a computer in CIT is much easier than getting access here, there is a wide range of computer labs across the campus available to all students in comparison to WIT. I never use the PC's here as I always use my laptop. But i definitely think CIT has more PC's available.

The RSC is far down???? It's about a 10 minute walk. Some people spend 20 mins in the car park waiting for spaces. The laziness of some people is just ridiculous. We've only had about 5 days bad weather since September so you can't blame the weather. Go get some exercise for yourself.

I had to use one of the PC's in the college the last day and this happened :

And what about when we start getting the months of rain then eh?? It is Ireland we're in after all.

Pay the €1 and get the taxi bus.

    Or...

Walk with a hood/umbrella and use a rain jacket like a lot of us do.

Now there's people complaining about walking from the RSC? I walk from Cherrymount to the main campus every Tuesday and Thursday evening and back again. It's a half hour walk each way and it's never done me any harm.

I'm really coming across as an angry auld fella in this thread aren't I :p.

I have enough excercise, on the footie team thank you very much mate! Just accept it, the WIT, can't facilitate all its students!

I nearly burst a blood vessel from raging while looking for a computer today. They were all taken up by blonde airheads surfing facebook writing shít like "OMG wat a messy nite xXx".

I needed a computer for actual college work
I also spotted a fat lad with glasses sitting in the corner and drinking a coke can while surfing boards. He was beside the radiator and sweating like mad.

The IT Building has pretty much all rooms free, as do some of the smaller rooms in the various buildings.

It's a shame they closed D01. It was really handy for finding a computer if the IT building was full. Really bad this year. Thankfully it's my last.

Should be open soon enough I think. They were working on it over the mid term and have a similar layout setup compared to the last time.

firstly...this has to say something about the college...

    http://www.wit.ie/News/News/MainBody,38291,en.html

People who drive to college from anywhere that is less than a 20min walk are just plain lazy!! Whats wrong with taking the bus anyway? Car parking is crazy, but the places should be for people communting not living in templars..

I think WIT has a pretty good IT building for a small college. I know it can get fustrating looking for a computer during a busy time, but if you know your going to need to used the computer alot during the day bring your labtop to college?....
Or hold on till 5pm because there are free one's then...
but its really not that often your can't find at least one free one in either the IT building, Library or a free class room... And if that dosnt work.. you go up to somebody that you can see is only using facebook (perferably a 1st year) and tell them the room / computer has been booked by your lecture for you in 5 - 10 min time, as you are working on your thesis, and ask them cud they finish up what they are doing. Then continue to stand right beside them until they feel so uncomfortable.. they will leave.
    it works :)

Not everyone who drives does it because they are lazy. Some people have work to go to straight after college and need to drive there, or need to drive home straight after work.

Plus our Bus service is hardly reliable.
