Where to fit toll tag

Sorry if this has been asked before, but the search function appears to be down.

I got a toll tag, and it's telling me to stick it where the black dots are (05 Honda Accord, with a rain sensor on the windscreen).

I suppose if that's what the instructions say, then that's what I should do, but it just seems counter-intuitive.

Surely if I ever have to remove the tag, it will damage the black dots? And surely there's a better chance for the toll gate to "see" the tag if it's not hidden behind black dots?

Is it because the rest of the windscreen has some sort of coating that impedes the tag, or something like that?

just move it below the dots slightly. My tag has a barcode on it so having that hidden might mean it wouldn't work

Black dots will not peel the adhesive is not that strong. Device is wireless so does not need to be in direct line of sight moreover close to the target.

Best spot is behind mirror where black dots are as it keeps it out of your vision, and frankly looks nicer.

AFAIK, the reason for putting it there is that, on cars with metallized windscreens, the area with the dots is the only area which the tag will be able to see through.

    What's a metallized windscreen?

I don't know exactly how they make them, but I think the idea is to reflect head away from the cabin. They do cause problems for GPS and toll tags, though.

Not sure but doesn't the tag make a beep when it registers? This way you cann tell if the placement is good?

FWIW, mine will even beep when it's in the glovebox.

im guessing they tell u to put it on the black dots so as not to (possibly) impede your view. it will work anywhere on your windscreen/glovebox:D
