They do a lot of good bio's and press, so you actually no a bit about the music which is nice. They also deal with the distribution for a lot of the key labels. KIND. OF. A. BIG. DEAL! +1 though jt, whopper site

Don't get me started about Beatport! They even have some no-mark egomaniac going by the name of Gorgeous Kid or something, no-one's ever heard of him yet he shows up on their compilations. FFS.

    :D

What I need is an old skool iTunes/Beatport hybrid to help me backfill my MP3 collection with the records I have gathering dust in the attic. I'm always on the lookout for a decent turntable to do the ripping, at the right price, but I fear the day I find one. Then starts months of dusting, experimenting with gain levels and bitrates, ripping, listening, cleaning up pops and crackles etc. etc. etc.

If I found a site with most of the stuff on it I'd gladly buy my own records again at €1 or €2 a go I think.

oh just in case anyone hasn't heard, wpp now have the ultimate preview player - needledrop anywhere in the track, mega high quality, and visible waveform.

couple this with their incredibly selective high quality catalog and it's bye bye beatport!

Oh and it's a lot cheaper as they don't whack on the tax like beatport do.

    Cheers for the heads up!

The player sure is impressive, technically how they get the needle-drop to be instant is class.

Thing is though, with my hunger for new releases - I randomly checked for 3 new tracks on whatpeopleplay and they didn't have them yet, so I'll still be using Beatport as well for a while. (1 of the tracks was Slam - Variance - savage new tune btw)

hmmm, you've also got to understand that wpp is very much going for a certain niche. It seems to aim to be just the online equivalent of a great specialist record shop, where you can go into the new releases section and not be bombarded with absolute rubbish (a la Beatport). So it's going to have a very limited selection (which is a good thing imo).

Ah yea that's fair enough - and I know Beatport are so big now they get a large percentage of the new releases a couple of weeks before everyone else.

Hopefully as they grow though they'll compete for the new releases as well, I mean - it's not good for any market to have a monopoly like Beatport have and how they get so many exclusives.

Ive been using WPP for a few months now, great site, can be a little lax on getting certain tracks that beatport have first, and can be the opposite, getting deadly tracks before beatport, catch 22!
