NCT QUERY

    Hi guys,
I have a Volvo S40.Messages are coming up on the dashboard saying that an anti skid service required and it is time for a regular service.I get the car regularly serviced with a service log. However I am concerned about this message regarding the requirement for an anti skid service.Apparently some ABS sensor needs replacing, not too sure.My own mechanics claim that this message could potentially cause the car to fail the NCT.I am a bit sceptical regarding their motives as they have priced the piece/sensor from Volvo that requires replacing and it comes to over 2 grand(obviously more money for their services)!!I have told them that I wish to put it through the NCT without spending 2 grand unnecessarily. They have said they know some of the NCT mechanics and might put a good word in for me.I must mention that the brakes on the car work perfectly well.Is there way these messages can be removed?Am I worrying without any great need, should I simply put the car through the NCT?Are they likely to fail my car in case anything would go wrong with it to cover themselves?Hope you guys can advise me?
    Selig:confused:

Get it hooked up to a diagnostic computer, that anti skid message would fail an nct.

They don't test your ABS in the NCT, however if they see your ABS light is lit up on the dash they will fail you on a visual basis.

So you just come back within the allotted time and show an NCT mechanic that you have it fixed without paying an extra fee. (Just went through this exact thing last week).

I'd send it through the NCT and then see what issues it has (if any) and THEN take it to get checked out by a garage.

This way, if there's more than just the ABS gone, you would save yourself some time/money by being able to point the exact issues out to your mechanic that you'll have from the NCT results, rather than paying him to root around and find them himself.
