Hi guys i've been having a problem with sound on my laptop lately it's making a funny crackling sound when ever video is being played or i'm playing a game.I'm hoping it's a driver problem in which case i would have no idea how to fix it so any suggestions woukd be appreciated. Also with some not all games when i try to install them it says I/O device error.Maybe the probs are connected?
    Many thanks for all ideas.

go to the dell support website and input your service tag number and it has all your drivers for your laptop, reinstall the sound and see if it helps.

or then again if your using speakers, make sure they are plugged in properly. make sure there is no other metal objects around the laptop plugs too.

Do any sounds play with out the crackliong noise?

To rule out damaged speakers, you could plug in ear phones and see it sounds normal.

Re. the Device I/O error - the computer might have problems reading the disc - take a look in the event logs and see if there are any errors related to bad blocks on the disc, or other info that was posted around the time to see if that gives you any clues as to where the problem is exaclty.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys i went to the support page and reinstalled my audio driver but to no avail the problem persists. The laptop is about three years old so could itbe that the speakers have packed it in,although in saying that the problem is still there when i use headphones.
Do i have to uninstall my 'old' driver before i install the new one

Just did a bit of googling there, and it seems that your not alone with this problem..

    This sounds bad!

but this is more encouraging and might be worthlooking into - suggests it's caused by interference with the wirless card.

I don't know if turning / disabling the wirelss card completely will alo you to test before updating the wlan card driver, but it's worth a go.
