I was just wondering what the minimum entry requirements are for the PGCE in Scotland and England.

I read you need a C in english and maths in your GCSE, what is a equivalent result in your leaving cert?

GCSE (or equivalent qualification) grade A–C or equivalent in English language and mathematics. Additionally, for primary
teaching, a GCSE (or equivalent qualification) in science, grades A–C or equivalent is required.

As an RoI applicant you should contact the colleges you are interested in applying to once you have been through the GTTR (clearing house) information.

In england ITT colleges are very flexible and can offer/suggest alternatives if you dont have the minimum requirements, so it's worth talking to an Admissions Director/Tutor/

gcse is equivalent to ordinary level leaving certificate
so GCSE C= leaving cert ordinary level C,
not sure how it equates to higher level d

I've applied to University of Edinburgh, for Primary School teaching, and I know that you have to have at least a C in Honours English and at least a B in Ordinary Maths at Leaving Cert level. The Leaving Cert is the GCSE for Edinburgh anyways, not sure about others colleges in Scotland but I would assume thay are similar.

Where are you thinking of applying or have applied for?

I am also wondering the same!

I dont have a Science subject for England and Wales, the closest I have is Home Ec and the couple of colleges I rang do not accept it.

In Scotland, if you need a higher C in English would an A or B at ordinary suffice??
I have also looked into the access course offered by Aberdeen, has anyone heard about this or know of anyone who has completed it??

    any help would be great!

    Hi,

Can someone provide me with one or two answers, I have applied last year for pgce course in bangor, wales and got the course. The college came back to me and told me my agricultural science leaving cert subject was not accepted as a science subject. My main question is has anyone got ag. science in leaving cert and got accepted on a pgce primary course? and what college accepted them? Thanks, Kevin
