Going to Cyclesuperstore tomorrow to finally chose and order my first road bike :D....and I don't seem to be able to decide between the below 2 bikes. Giant Avail 2 v Lappierre Audacio 400 Women's bike :o

    versus

I'm leaning more and more towards the Giant, simply cos I like the way it looks. (Not into the whole 'euro' bike look, cos I didn't want to get a majority colored white bike. please don't shun me..I'm only learning )

From what I've learnt off here, I know that the Sora groupset is slightly better than Tiagra, and the Lappierre seems to be all Tiagra and Giant is a mix of the two.

My budget is €1000 with the cycle to work scheme, so I can't afford to go for anything over the price of the Giant and I have to get it from the Cyclesuperstore.

So which would you guys recommended?

(sorry about having to start a new thread but I can't find the one I started back in August where I first broached the timing of getting a road bike)

    Hey Glitterangel,

Well there's only small differences between the two TBH. The Lapierre has a complete Tiagra grouppo where as the Giant has mix (Sora brakes and out of series small reach brake/shifters). The wheels are morealess of an equal quality, so nothing there.

There is an interesting choice between the two when it comes to the gearing though: the giant has a triple chainring (30,39,50 - in the front) and a cassette 12-25 whereas the Lapierre has a compact (2 chainrings -30,39) with a 13-25cassette; the Giant has a better range of gears to allow you climb (and easy enough to go up the north face) and still give you speed on the flat and descents whereas the Lapierra could see you spinning out on the drops.

Personally I'm with you on the Giant, it's better looking and is probably the more versatile of the two

Other way around, Tiagra is better than Sora. Sora is now 9 speed so the difference may not be as pronounced as it was. Tiagra shifters don't have the thumb shifter, similar to Shimano's 10 speed groupsets. Whether or not you prefer this is up to you.

Personally I prefer the Lapierre, lookswise. It may boil down to whichever one fits you better or feels better.

Sorry for not making that clearer - the Lappierre as Dirk points out has shifter units a grade up from the Giant, but then the range of gears offered may be limiting esp when you find yourself going down hill.

With the Giant the button instead of the second lever on the shifters will make your future upgrade (that right Shimano lovers, you heard me) to Campagnolo all the easier anyhow...:D

Thanks for the advice...and opps sorry about the mixing up of the Tigra and Sora..I'll do better in future.

Going to try out the Lappierre tomorrow as they don't think they have the Giant in my size :)
