I use moldies.. no problem with them

Those two boots dont look like they would offer much protection at all.

Thanks Cronin I suupose what I'm wondering about is if mouldies are fine now as ground is still fairly hard. But one the real winter hits and pitches become soggy will mouldies be any good.

Got a pair of adidas 915's last Christmas and now they are starting to come apart so don't really want to go down the adidas route again.

Ya the mouldies are good for the firmer ground, i bought a pair of addidas ones a few months ago and the modlies were made for soft ground, i compared the boots with the firmer ones and the moulds were much longer.

I do find addidas boots fall apart much easier though, the predators (rugby) seem to hold up well, they are a heavy boot though, esp if your playing on the wing your probably better suited to a football boot as they are much lighter.

I was gonna say similar, I use heavier than that for tag / summer. Asics all the way (bloody expensive mind)

Mouldies are all well and good at the moment, but in the depths of the winter they'll be as useful as trainers.

If cash is no problem, these are specifically designed for backs: http://www.lovell-rugby.co.uk/Rugby-Boots/Adidas/Nine-15-IV-SG-Rugby-Boots

    Or these are cheaper: http://www.lovell-rugby.co.uk/Rugby-Boots/Puma/V_Kon-III-SG-Rugby-Boots-Black-or-Neon-Yellow

You could just get football boots, but make sure they're sturdy!

How do you mean sturdy? Max I'm willing to spend is £60. The adidas ones are out I'm afraid. I loved the adidas boots they were a good fit and light.

Was wearing Kooga's when I went back playing last year and put them back on when my adidas went tits up and the difference is huge really wide fit and it was like wearing wet (inside) wellies in the wet

If you are on the wing just buy a cheap pair of football boots and a set of Metal studs so you can replace them when it gets muddy. Boots rarely last more then a season no matter how much you spend- I got a pair of Nikes up in JD Sports in the square for €16 and they do the job.

No offence, if you are a winger don't bother with the adidas 9/15s. Too heavy, and they say they are backs boots, well thats not true, not anymore. More of a forwards boots not the way they built.

    Those Pumas aren't the best.

Adidas Rugby Predators, or the Puma ones you where originally looking for are your best options.

Here I'm a winger and wear 9/15s. Delighted with them. Don't know why you say they're too heavy, they're not at all.

New or older ones? Older ones are better.

I dunno I always found them a but heavy grip wise if you on the wing.

Last year's ones. They're grand, good grip, light and good for kicking.

I had them. Great boots. Miss 'em :(

    None taken.

As a prop the Nine 15s feel too light for me!

I've never had any trouble with Addidas boots, although I'm using Kooga K1s at the moment and happy with those, but they're too heavy for a back.

Again guys thanks for all the help have ordered the asics ones I linked to. On the 915 3s found them a lovely light boot as I said they are now coming apart.

The front stud plate has parted from both boots at the back of the plate.

Since this is already a thread on boots - I would appreciate your advice on buying a pair of Rugby boots for my son.

I have spotted these Canterbury's on ebay
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300358055754&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

and I would appreciate you advice on
    1. Are these suitable for a young teenager, I want to buy something decent and not have them falling apart in a few weeks
    2. Are they decent value ? They say they are reduced from over £119 and are selling for €40

    Any input/advice appreciated.

    Thanks

    B

    Hey bronsa,

Canterbury boots are not good quality. Used them twice found them to be useless and a waste of money. I had a pair a few years back when I was 15, and the quality is not very good.
My advice would be to go for a simple boot like AdiPures or Pumas. You can pick up a pair for €30-€40 in many shops. They will last longer and be easier on your foot. Quality is also better.

    Hope that helped :)
