Slats

    Hi.

A number of our slats need replaced in our sheds and we have tried to make our own with little success. We put one of the replacement slats in place yesterday and it literally crumbled under the weight of the cattle.

Does anyone know of a firm that supplies single slats? My Dad has tried to source some but has been unable to find any of a suitable size.

    Any help appreciated,

    Cheers

Concrete slats are made from high strength concrete with prestressed reinforcement. I doubt too many people would have the kit to make their own. Plus the concrete needs to be cured prefectly.

If you cannot find single ones, what you could do is replace an area of good slats with a suitable unit and use the good slats to replace the poor ones, assuming the poor ones failed because they got damaged by a machine or something.

However if a few of your slats are beginning to fail i'd imagine the rest will soon follow, it might be safer to replace the lot.

If you can't get a single slat a lump of an ESB pole would do the trick

Yeah, If they arent over 8ft a railway sleeper might do. I've put in a couple, only trouble is they tend to float! Be careful with the chainsaw with all that concrete around, cut it to length first then do the T. Hope this helps. You need to watch that laoise crowd for having no steel in some of their gang slats too.
