    Almost 10K for that Beetle:eek:

Is it just me or do the rear wheels sit rather "funny" in the beetle?

Those Twin cams are making mad money, not to your taste obviously, but there is a scene there for them. Where there is a scene, let there be people to pay the premiuim :P

Always makes me smile at the over inflated values people put on their cars here plus what they think constitutes good condition

I'm far from a boy racer, but if I was given 10k and told to buy an aged Toyota, an AE86 Levin would be top of the list of cars I'd consider.

Its not the guy selling, its the guy buying is the idiot paying the money for an overpriced car.
If i want to ask 10k for a car thats worth 3 or 4k,and i get someone to pay the 10,whos the fool?

Do you just really love the looks of them or why else would you spend 10k buying a Toyota Corolla coupe AE86?

10k is a massive budget these days and it would buy you something really special...

Something really special to some people is a Toyota .
Each to there own and all that ;)
We dont all have to love Mercs ,Jags or Saabs to be an enthusiast .

I would agree with carchaeologist above .
Lads can look for what they like for a car .
What they get and what someone is willing to pay for it is another story .
    My 2cents

I get your defence of the Toyota and you're right , each to their own. You dont have to love Mercs, Jags or Saabs to be an enthusiast, this is not a Toyota bashing thread. Its a thread to show how un-realistic / stupid people can be with their pricing. If someone asks or pays 10 grand for an 1986 Corolla then I'd say they're nuts.....or the Bettle I also posted. P.S Here's the same car at half the price http://cars.motornet.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=200942195508718...Kinda proves the point ;)

The point about me picking the Levin is that that car could be an absolute hoot to own, and would easily cost more than the asking price to build, were I so inclined.

Personally, I'm building something really special myself....and I know just as many of you would wonder why in this instance too! More on this later :-)

I've no issue with the asking prices for these cars if they're really as good as they purport to be. Any of us who have done a really good job rebuilding an old car know just how much it costs - In time and financial terms. Great for those of us with an extensive set of tools and the knowledge to use them....damned expensive for those who do cheque-book restorations though....

I think it's relative really. I wouldn't pay it, but if I were to go buy something like that and it had been properly built I would expect that kind of pricetag to be honest....

Think the difference here is..the Beetle is a complete resto job ,where the Toyota is just a bolt-on-bits one...theres no way imo that the toyota's worth that much ..to me anyways..;)...

It's a pointless thread really. All subjective.

If someone is happy to pay €X for a particular 'classic' good on them, it's their money and more importantly it's for their enjoyment.

Personally I do think some of the more mundane 'classics' are some what over priced here & the U.K. but it's horses for courses.

As for the examples shown, a VW Bettle could cost €20k to rebuild (as could an original Mini) and the Toyota could have €10k in modified parts alone.

Plus every 'classic' is unique compaired to a modern car so it should be judged accordingly.

    True lad ya .
    Just to add
I wasnt even using the above ^^Levin as a defence ,i was defending all Toyotas in general . The jap kitted stuff wouldnt by my thing really .
Prefer the older irish ke2x/3x/7x's and ae8x's .
Just get the blood boiling when an auld Toyota dont get the respect of other makes .
Just because certain rwd models are driven by young lads intent on blackening crossroad dont mean all toyota enthusiasts agree with it .
I know tonnes of lads with various model toyota that have them in carcoons or sheds with dehumidifiers and you may **** a brick when i tell you there are certain original standard ae86's which in the past have made 15-20k+ without even being advertised .
Also you will buy an ae86 at the minute for 4k but as you know it aint gonna be no beauty for that money haha.

Agree with you though Saab Ed both the beetle and Levin above are overpriced ;)
