Need a Home Tutor

I am trying to find a home tutor for my child but the Dept of Education require the tutor to have primary school qualification as well as an aba qualification.

I have tried many places but not having much luck. I have tried other websites and contacted local primary schools.

It is a nightmare trying to find a suitable person - you would think the Dept would have a list of available people.

Can anyone suggest where I should go from here... what approach should I take... I am running out of places to turn to and my child needs to start a home programme immediately.

you dont have to have a primary school qualification and an aba qualifiaction.. I dont have either, but I do have my degree and a special needs qualification. I have been working with a family for the year now. I have a tonne of ABA experience and was allowed to apply to the teaching council for recognition and they have approved it so long as garda vetting goes through.. no probs with that, have been vetted each school i worked in!!

there is a loop hole with the grant application that if you prove to them that you have tried and tried but to no avail you can hire someone suitable without their recommended qualifications. We just got our letter saying Im ok for the next school year 2009-10 so maybe you should check out this route further...

There are alot of people out there like me, try www.rollercoaster.ie and www.educationposts.ie for more of us!

    Hope this helps!

i find there is always a loophole or exception. the fact that your kid is missing out because there aren't teachers with the exact qualifications needed seems ridiculous. i home educate my kids and i have zero qualification at third level! id ring up again and find someone who's sympathetic often it seems to depend on the person you speak to and the mood they re in at the time if you don't ge the answer you want call again and ask to speak to someone else. even ring someone in a slightly different department. perhaps you could talk to the lady from homechooling she is lovely and very helpful and might be able to help. id push that your kid is missing out all the while they re insisting on standards that are prohibitive.
