That's a 'one size fits all' aerial which is not what you want, you need a aerial designed for UHF and nothing else. Nip down to Maplins and buy this one......

If you're in Dublin city you need to point it at Three Rock and keep the bars horizontal as they appear in the picture.

Jervis St. and Blanchardstown Centre. Write down the part number of that aerial (L56AF) and bring it with you in case you can't find it on display in the store.

You're welcome, perhaps you'd give this guy some advice given that you've already purchased the PC kit.....

wait... that aerial will work fine in Dublin (I've tested one - and whilst there are better out there - they do work.

Lash the gain up full whack - the volume button in the centre of the aerial - keep the aerial rods down altogether in a \ / c shape. Move the aerial towards your window cill.

What you are missing on the dvb-t end is the MPEG4 H264 codec either from CoreAVC or PowerDVD. Windows7 has native support.

That aerial will be no better (it'll be worse actually - I've tested that as well). That aerial has NO gain and is a waste of money.

The problem is not the 48db gain aerial!

Your problem is first of all the codec is not installed. The dvb-t tuner wont tune anything in without it. The other codecs I mentioned above you have to pay for but Haupaage does support them.

However, You could try installing VLC first (its free - videolan) and following these instructions first (rather than using the hauppage software). In his intstruction he mentions putting in a frequency manually - in your case it will be 738000 rather than 666000.

Just to set realistic expectations on that aerial...........

I live on the southside and can pickup RTE1, RTE2 and TV3 from Three Rock but not TG4 and I've been advised that the analog TG4 signal and the DTT test transmissions are at a higher frequency then the other channels so the fact that I can't pickup TG4 means that I probably can't pickup DTT either and that turns out to be the case so unless you're at a very good height with nothing in the way then that aerial may not get you the DTT transmission.

Believe it or not I have three indoor UHF aerials and the Maplins one is the best, the other so-called VHF/UHF/Digital aerials with telescopic and circular antennae like that Argos one you bought are all completely useless.

I'm using the Avermedia A815 with native H264 support and it works fine with DTT from 3 rock. It came with an antennae style aerial with a magnetic base.

myles79, if I were you I'd follow STB's advice before spending money on an antenna. I have VLC version 1.0.1, a Hauppage Nova-T USB stick, a One For All SV-9020 passive indoor antenna and a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. I'm in an apartment block in Santry for part of the week and in Ballina, Co. Mayo at other times. This setup works fine in both locations and its simple - no messing with codecs. That thread highlighted by STB is worth reading

Or have a look at some images of my setup in this thread

    Good luck with it.
