Immobiliser or Ignition problem

    Hi All,

My 2000 Honda Accord 1.8 petrol gave up the ghost yesterday. on a few occasions the rev counter, odometer and all warning lights on the dash lit up or flashed and the car would stop briefly. On restarting it would be fine for another week or two. However yesterday a small puff of smoke came from the steering column just after the dash lit up and the car wouldn't restart.

No ignition lights come on now but the starter motor will turn. The car won't idle. Initial taughts is that the immobiliser has failed.

Anyone any ideas, it's in the garage now...any guideline prices on replacing the immobiliser?

    Thank you.

Common problem on the Accords is the ignition switch ie the wire that sits on the back of the ignition barrell.
The symptoms of that are usually cutting out randomly though. If they do come back and say its the ignition switch then dont pay anymore than 38.38+vat.

Immobiliser problem could be anything though more than likely the pickup ring for the key (Immobiliser antenna)
Dont think theyre anymore than 40-50 either.
