Finding accomadation

So I am looking on daft.ie for new accomadation, the lease on this place is up and we are not paying the same again. Back in the day this was the cheapest.

So we are looking for something around the 800 mark, for two people, which is fine. Right? Anyway, nobody accepts rent allowance, why is this? The only thing I can think of is tax. If they take in rent they have to pay pretty high tax on it. Is there anything that can be done about this?

I mean, there are so many houses and flats out there, but some are still a little high priced. 1200 for a 1 bed apartment in sandyford? Wtf are they thinking???

Apart from Daft.ie, are there any other good sites? Anybody got any ideas at all?

Rents are generally cheaper on the northside. Have you considered this. Granted you prob will pay it in travel but is it a solution to live on the commuter belt as such.

I find places like cadbra to be good for transport into town and reasonable onb rent.

Any where on the dart( Except howth and sutton on the northside) might be worth considering.

    All my friends use

Daft/My home and the papers what they also do is go to the shops in the area they want to live and look for adverts. However that usually means shareing.

I'm in the market as well, but the trouble is, a lot of people out there need to wake up and smell the coffee. they seem to think that because their mortgage is €1200 per month, that is what it is worth in rent, when in reality they should be cutting their losses and getting whatever they can.

There are **** loads of apartments available and none are moving, you would have thought that was a clue to some people that the market is no longer there.

I have just put in an offer 25% lower than what they were asking and they rejected it, but I believe the agent was teloing them to take it because in three months we are the only people who have looked at it.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Not really. Landlords have the right to refuse it if they wish.

This is soooo true. Where I live now there are loads of empty apartments. Landlords can be fairly greedy. Most are fine though. Say a house is 900. I will be asking to reduce it to 800 anyway. 800 is a fair price for a house. I have considered moving northside, but I am not very familiar with anywhere on the northside. Last thing I want is to move to some kip, have my car robbed and worry about my girlfriend every time she steps outside the door.

What reason do they have for refusing it? It's not logical unless they don't want to be detected by revenue...

When you see the standard of the apartments in Dublin I would say 800 is way to much for a 2 bed apartment outside of city centre. You can now find 2 bed apartments for 800 in city centre so what kind of sucker would pay 1200 for that kind of apartment miles outside of city centre?

Aye, because the southside is the land of milk and honey, with zero crime, obviously.

The standard is very very good, much better than the standard outside of Dublin, what exactly were you looking at?

1200 was very standard rent 1 year ago in a lot of places. City centre is a lot more ;)

It sure isn't, but it's a lot better than the kip that is the north side.

In Sweden I get 2 bed room apartments for €500-€600, these are way better insulated, with proper faciliities for washing and also a place in the basement where you can lock up and park your bicycles.

In Dublin I have found 2 bedroom flats for €800 in Dublin 3 and Smithfield.

When I check daft.ie now you can find 2 bedroom flats in city centre for €700 so only suckers would pay €1000+ in rent. When I lived in Dublin I only paid €240 for my room.

Why would you talk about sweeden? In belgium I can get a 3 bedroom house with a nice garden for 500 quid... probably even less now.

I wouldn't lieve in smithfield if ya payed me :P

I rather not live in town at all. It's much more expensive and parking could be a problem too.

I've lived in Smithfield, quietest place I've lived.

They have a horse market every month, smells nasty and you see alot of disgusting rubbish people at the horse market.

There's more human sh!t on the streets of smithfield than there is dog sh!t on dun laoghaire peer. Smithfield is a kip. I seen a few nice apartments there, but still wouldn't even think of moving there.

It's not the horses I am worried about, it's the junkies :P

Why the fúck would you want to live in Dublin anyway?
Nothing but drive by shootings, stabbings, students kicking the shít out of each other, junkies, the Dail, pickpockets, etc .

In Canada I had a 1 bed apartment for €350 per month.

Someone mentioned 2 bed apartments in the Dublin City Centre for €800, care to link to any? Because I don't believe it, and if they're there, they're in a kip.

You never do have anything to add to threads do you? Your opinions do not matter here... now scram child...

Doubtful there are any places in town for 800 with 2 bedrooms. Unless you are sharing and one of the bedrooms is already taken :)

Anytime I've searched for a room in town, I always get excited to see a nice one in a decent location for about 400, until I click into the ad and find that you're sharing the room with 2 Brazilian* guys!

    *Insert random nation here

I'd love to live in town but I don't want to share with 10 other people just to get something affordable.

Does anyone actually check daft and sort by prices, just right now I found 2 bedroom flats for €700 in city centre.
