How are aftermarket companies / motorfactors trying to get you to spend money?

    Hi

I'm wondering if anybody has seen their local motor factor or any company selling parts trying something different to drum up sales?

My local factors dont seem to be doing anything except cut the staff numbers and hours.

Surely someone somewhere is actually trying something that they didnt try before to increase sales?

As someone who works in the area, most work in drumming up sales has been more for the trade guys as these would be the biggest customers. But in general prices have dropped on a lot of parts. Promo's have always been run to get MF to purchase quality product at the right price.

The general public walking into a motor factors only respresents a small percentage of income to a MF, but a MF will get a higher mark up from the general public.

There is organisation like SIMI for the motor factors, maybe they should look are getting one set up to encourage people to stop buying parts on the internet and go into their local factor who can supply OE products at resonable prices.

I worked for motor factors and their suppliers for about 10 years but got out of the game about 5 years ago so I'm not really in touch with what's going on now but I still have trade accounts with 2 factors and there doesnt seem to be much new coming with the monthly statements.

On the whole it looks like the trade are sitting back waiting for customers to come to them, I haven't seen any effort at getting customers in - not even a "your car is due a service" email or letter from the garage.

So apart from dropping prices, which the MF may or may not have actually passed on in full, or even told the trade customers about, has anybody seen an effort somewhere to drum up business?
