I posted a question about HIM/IM events before but cant find it now; I've been planning out (in broad strokes) the next year or so of training and am looking for some suggestions/feedback.

In the coming year I'm planning on a long run (the connemarathon or ultra) in April, and want a HIM later in the year (probably october based on recovery time after the marathon and a 20week plan for a HIM event).

Longer term I'd like to finish an IM in 2011, all going to plan... but that has thrown up some questions: would you plan each of these as separate events or combine the HIM and IM together in a plan?

The 30week plans in the fink book have you at a HIM in week 22 of an IM training program, so should I just set out with an IM in 2011 as the plan and work towards that after April?

Re: IM events I'm looking mainly at what's still bookable next year today, on the assumption that it should be possible to choose an event with some confidence that i'll be able to register for it online next year (unlike, say, austria). So NZ (march), OZ (end of march) St. George (utah, start of may but apparently a brutal cycle) and France (June) are the candidates. Anyone any comments on these events?

    Comments/suggestions/abuse welcome.
    Cheers!

    My tuppence!

HIM next oct sounds like a good plan if your aim is fulll IM in '11. I would treat them as seperate events, all of which will give you experience for your next challenge.

Did France in 08. Awesome experience.

Swim, watch out for the jellyfish!

Bike is what you will hear a lot about. Manageable but needs to be respected all the same. It is hard. Plenty of training grounds in Ireland though...

    Run, hot hot, hot...

Would I do it again? Absolutely

Not the hardest event to get into as they take in approx 3,000 registrations...

    Hope that helps...

    GD
