    Hey,

My Dell Vostro 1000 has just randomly decided to stop charging.
My battery could never hold more than a few minutes charge and i was pretty much just keeping it plugged in all the time but now its refusing to even power from the AC adaptor.

I tried using a different Power Adaptor and even upgrading the bios but with no luck.

    Any boardsies have any ideas?

Do you have to move the power adaptor to get it to charge?

i had to scrap my laptop last year due to same problem, something had blown inside, think it was something to do with the power supply

would it turn on if you took the battery out ?

if so its the battery. if not its the charger. or it could be that watch battery thats on the mother board (big flat round batteries you find in watches.)

The laptop works fine if i use a charged battery but it just wont charge through the laptop...it switches straight off if i remove the battery even when its plugged in

get onto dell to send you a new charger under warranty so.

your battery may be fine, just get dell to sort out the charger first.

Ive seen some older dells which have terrible power issues. if thats the case it might just be time to scrap it.
