Perhaps someone could clear this up for me. I've read somewhere previously that I don't have to change the timing belt till 180,000kms. Surely this can't be right - or is it?

    It's a 1.6hdi.

Also please check if there is a time limit. Belts are made from rubber, which deteriorates with time. Usually a cam belt change is needed say after 50k miles or 5 years - whichever comes earlier.

    Yep it's 144,000 mls for the 1.6 hdi or 5 years...
But I'd rather replace it around 100kish..:)
Check out http://www.407owners.com/forums/ as one of the members there has put up a how to guide on replacing the timing belt on the 1.6 hdi...:)
