Just out of curiosity, would many of you out there get a medical done before running a marathon?
Would you feel it was important to be 100% sure of your body's capabilities or would you be confident enough based on how you feel during training, LSRs etc?

Never crossed my mind. If you (or anybody) is concerned I'd get the checking done before starting the training. Once you've done it then your body will handle the race and it's your mind that will be tested more.

I had to get a medical done for the Paris Marathon this year - thought initially that it was all a bit of a hassle but was really glad after that I did get checked out - peace of mind and all that. However, I do agree that it might be better to get the medical done before all the training. It certainly can't be a bad thing to make sure you're fit enough to run a marathon, before you start doing all the long runs...

I have one once a year just to get checked over. Never for a specific event. I'd do the same for my car :)

Funny you should ask that .... I just made an appointment today with my GP for Thursday to get an referral for an exercise ECG just before I start training seriously for a marathon.

Have run this years Dublin Half Marathon, but as I've a family history of people dying from heart attacks I thought it would be a good idea! :o
