Couldn't check if this was posted before as search function is down.

I am looking for a comprenshive list of what a basic car service should consist of and what would be a reasonable price for this. Maybe a sticky should be made on a car service?

It depends on the make of your car and which service it is (a 10.000 mile service is different form a 2000 mile service).
It should be covered in your cars' manual.

    Basic service usually consits of
    changing the
    Spark plugs.
    Air filter.
    Oil change.
    Oil filter.
    Brake pads(check maybe even renewal).

I doubt if replacement brake pads would be included in a basic service - they would be an additional cost.

The condition of the brake pads would be checked alright but by default changing them would not be part of a basic service.

Plug your reg into http://www.irishcarservicing.ie. You should get a quote straight away. I think it also includes a list of what's covered.

Check out Volvoboys thread and do it yourself.
