won it through work, took delivery of it today, but i'm still in work so cant give it the once over yet. got the wife to text me the model number, its a ps42b43 plasma. given the sheisters i work for i can only assume the following:

    1. its an old model
    2. its hd ready only (ie not 1080p)

this i can live with (would have liked a 1080p, but anyway) but as i'm no samsung expert, and seeing as i got it for nowt, is it any good?

or should i bung it up for sale and use the funds to get a better one?

oh, its my first flat screen, been in crt land up to this.

No it's useless - I'll dispose of it for you :D

Seriously, take it out of the box and try it. Samsungs are decent enough. Turn it on and watch it for a few days - if you like it then your sorted. You are the one that will be watching it so your opinion is the most important one. If you do decide to go HD it should handle a 720p signal which will give you a much better picture than SDTV.

It seems that model may be a foreign one, can't find much info about it in English. Samsung are very good tvs though (I have a Samsung Plasma too, it's great)

42ps43 makes it a series 4 which is hd ready, as far as i know.
plasma isnt the most economical either, allthough opinions seem to vary on that.

Still, as you said, you got it for free so nice enough.

Be aware that Samsung tend to have terrible default picture settings out of the box. If you google the model number a bit (and search avforums) you should be able to find some good settings. If not, switch off any of the "enhancements", and turn the brightness, contrast and colour levels down 50%ish, then slowly work them back up as needed.

yep, have it a few weeks now and did that on the 2nd day, happy enough with the picture so far, SD sky looks grand on it and i have the xbox hooked up via hdmi so my games look nice. cant complain for something that cost me nowt
