Is there a fine applicable for not complying?

Today was the first time we've actually been told to get out by security.

Fine is at the discretion of the Junior Dean if you are reported.

Be looking at probably about €100

Get out and stay out if the alarm goes off

I remember last year it used to go off fairly regularily in the Hamilton. After the first two I usually stayed inside when it went off and continued on. Never heard about fines.

Well there was a fire last years in the Hamilton. So one set fire to the toilets. Not to mention the fire in the pharmacy section late one evening. Without getting into it, I think you're an absolute genius for staying inside when a fire alarm is going off. It makes it easier for the rest of us to get out.

Probably afraid of people staying inside and robbing stuff so there has got to be some way of forcing people out!

I was in the Hamilton Mac labs when that happened (ie just across the concourse). The alarm sounded fairly distant, and no-one moved an inch until a slightly panicky security guard came in and started shouting to GTFO. It was pretty unnerving to see how close the fire was, as far as I know there's no other escape from those labs...

Ordinarily I'd recommend complying with any fire safety regulations, but when it comes to Trinity, I'd take any health and safety regulations with an Everest sized grain of salt. Remember, these are the same guys that said we couldn't have nice couches in the Hamilton Block because of 'health and safety', that we can't sell or give out certain foods because of 'health and safety'.

So, if you think there's any chance you'll get slapped with a fine from the Junior Dean, then comply with security. Otherwise, tell them to **** right off.

I was in the Mac lab when the fire alarm (apparently) went off today. Did not hear it at all. Surely basement rooms would be one of the more important places to be able to hear fire alarms...

On a slightly related note, I saw some rather spiffing couches upstairs in the Hamilton today, if you go up the stairs by the chemistry labs. No idea what they're there for, nor when they appeared.

Was that at about 4.15 today? Heard an alarm go off just outside the Hamiliton but I couldn't tell where it was coming from. Wasn't sounding inside the building.

They've always been there. Rather chilly though with the Panoz door below.

Yeah, once you close the door of the Maths Department in Westland Row, you can't even hear the fire alarm. Somewhat worrying ...

There are fire alarms within the Maths Department which have been known to go off. And there are fire exits onto Westland Row in case of emergency (e.g., Atrium on fire).
