    hi everyone,
I'm having trouble with my laptop. I have an eircom router located downstairs. When I'm using the laptop downstairs everything is fine. But when I bring the laptop upstairs the connection gets very slow. I can't watch YouTube videos etc. When I look at my WiFi signal it says it's excellent so I can't understand why it slows down so much when I bring the laptop upstairs. any ideas?

Look for other sources of interference which could be interfering with the signal, baby monitors, microwaves, badly shielded aeriels etc.

Also, try flipping your router aerial through 90 degrees, most wireless routers are designed to send most of the signal on the horizontal, not on the vertical.

thanks for that, I'm wondering is there any way to boost the signal using an extra receiver upstairs. I was thinking maybe of routing an ethernet cable and plugging it directly into the laptop upstairs because that's where I'm at most of the time. This sounds like a lot of hassle though.
