For a change I'm being optimistic on this one and I think we'll win. 2-1.

Crouch and Defoe against their old club :D

do u think keane will be dropped?

Nope, but I reckon Crouchy will get a good slice of second half play.

Tough fixture as they have been playing better than there results have shown, and they just got there first win. In saying that, its the type of gaming we need to be winning to be near the top 6. Team I hope for is,
Gomes Corluka Dawson Bassong BAE Lennon Wilson Hudd Krancjar Defoe Crouch.

any update on modric, woodie and king?

I think the break did us a favour as they would have been on a high having won their first game. We should be winning this type of game though I'm not sure - I'm sort of expecting a draw.

I want to see Gomes back in goal though.

Do you really not think we should be beating Pompey? Hopefully we'll have Gomes and Dawson back. I really think we should be winning this comfortably. Saying that, a scrappy 2-1 win :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

Hopefully we will see Gomes back in goal for this game and King will be fit again,we should be able to beat pompey with our squad of players,1-0 will do.i would like to see a clean sheet for a change.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

king is fit to play thank god

woodie played 90 mins in a closed doors game last nite , came through fine but wont be ready for this sat. modric is still 2 more weeks away!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Great news! So we're not far away from having our first choice centre back pairing! Is the two weeks for Modric when he'll be back in the first team or when he can return to training?

he is back in training i think already. should be playing in two weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,815 ✭✭✭golfball37

I read on BBC that Woodgate will be in the squad for Sat which is great nerws.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭Manic087

I saw something that all 4 of our major centre backs are back in training. Now I'm not sure exactly the amount of training but hopefully King Bassong and Daws are back to full training and fit and ready for Saturday. If woody's getting close too it can only be good.

Add Moddle getting back to fitness as well and it'll all be looking good for us especially with the goon on the horizon!!

I would def be a boost to have them all back in the couple of weeks.

I'm going to say bring them crashing back down to earth with a 3 or even 4-1 win.

Defoe to get two crouch to get one with his arse and a Hudd screamer.

We are heavy favourites with the bookies & they are normally right. So i think we should win, especially if our centre-backs are all back. Spurs to win by 1 or 2 to nothing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

we will concede if cudicini starts guys - thats for sure

    1-1 i would say

king will play, i cant see woodie playing

Hopefully Leds & co can protect our dodgy keeper!

I'd hope Harry'll pick the following:

    Gomes

    Charlie...King...Daws...BAE

    Lennon...JJ...Hudd...Niko

    Defoe...Keane

Before people start...Wilson doesn't get back to England until tomorrow so maybe starting him on the bench would be the best bet.

    Bench would be:

Cudicini, Bassong, Naughton, Bentley, Wilson, Crouch and Bale

I'd go with that team. Wilson will be knackered after travel and the inevitable partying from qualifying for the WC so leave him on the bench. Hudd and JJ should have enough experience/quality to deal with the Portsmouth midfield.

Think redknapp said palacios would be on the bench because of the long trek home

Think that's changed again. Apparently the Honduran president ordered them all to go and celebrate their qualification for the World Cup. Harry knows about it and has faced the fact he probably won't be back in England till Saturday or Sunday.

Ordered by your President to celebrate. Well it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it!!

I just spotted that Torres and Gerrard are both out for Liverpool tomorrow meaning that they might struggle for a win up there. If we could get a win, with Liverpool playing Utd the weekend after, we could open up a nice lead over them.

Unfortunately city's and arsenals game in hand is most worrying i'd love to see them upset this weekend

First choice player on the fan mail thread :) great result games like that over the last couple of years we would be dropping points. I'm thinking of going as harry now to my halloween session. Its how much i love currently the man,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

gomes man of the match, he is back for good now hopefully. jenas was outstanding as well today, worked as hard as palacious does

boateng scores and gets player of the month !!!! should we not have kept him

anyway modric, woodie to come back . stoke at home next week. things are only getting better. defoe will get a suspension but crouch, pav to replace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,395 ✭✭✭Hatch99

Good Win, keeps us up there with pool and Chelsea losing, stupid from defoe, 3 game ban looming id imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭chiefwiggum

boateng never impressed me for us...ran round like a headless chicken and couldnt keep the ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 858 ✭✭✭RichMc70

Happy with the result, even if it was scrappy. I think a few of us predicted a 2-1 scoreline. Sounded like Pompey gave it a real lash in the 2nd half and we had to thank the Octopus for a few good saves.

Dissapointed with JD losing the head and getting red. 3 match suspension for sure, which will mean he misses Arsenal away.

    COYS

gomes earned his money today ..few great saves.pick of the bunch was the deflected free kick...great shot stopper..looked as good as he was at psv..kickin weak though but fair play earned us 3 points today

Gad somebody brought up his kicking which was poor, but the big lug made some truly stunning saves and deserved his MOTM.

We were poor in midfield yesterday and allowed Pompey far too much time and space, between Gomez and some poor finishing we held on but better teams will punish us if we repeat that performance.

Defoe is a very silly boy, but Mokoena is a disgrace for his reaction...

Dowd was his usual sh1t self.

What was the atmosphere at it like?

Were you in with the away fans.

I usually find Pompey games hard to watch mainly because of this lunatic. Never goes well with a hangover :D

In with our own, I'd never go in with home fans.

They were quiet until their goal and the sending off, I was disappointed by the response Defoe/'Arry got, nowhere near the vitriol I expected.

I'm told that prat with the bell was thrown out at half-time :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Seillejet

Arry's a master with the media. I heard his interview before the game and he was basically demanding the red carpet from the fans for everything he did for Pompey.

No one does viroil with Defoe like the Hammers it has to be said.

I had to go in with the home fans once at a Liverpool game. My aul fella (a liverpool fan) announced to the entire section I was a spurs fan after me warning him to shut the f*&K up. In fairness to the scousers they were grand although they did win 2-0.

I remember that lunatic at a Pompey game in Ireland years ago. Every one was telling him to be quiet but he was in his usual Ozzy Osbourne like state.

Every game you seem to go to we get a result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭keane=cock

think we were lucky enough to get the win. defoe defo deserved a red card fr his "stamp" dont understand why he would do such a feilble attempt to hurt someone.

never prasie him much(except fo that save against chelsea) but he was brilliant. might be disappointed t concede on his near post but his reaction t some shots was world class. won us the game.

on kevin prince boatang, never got a look in at spurs but i always like to see ex spurs players do well, just not against spurs! great strike.

Went to see portsmouth at the lane and I was unfortunately close enough to "enjoy" that gimps supporting for the entire game.

Mind you I don't even like watching them on telly at times you can hear him in the background. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Gotta say that I'm chuffed with that result. We certainly rode our luck and Pompey definitely had enough chances to win the game, but at least we're winning away from home. 5 away games, 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. That's pretty damn good.

That save that Gomes made from the deflected free kick was absolutely stunning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

Another good away result, fair play to Gomes on his comeback, great display by him.a win against Stoke next week now would be great and with a few players getting back from injury things are looking up.
