    Difference between 1.9TDI & 2.0TDI Audi A3

    Hello,

I was wondering if anybody could explain the differences between the 1.9tdi 2.0tdi Audi A3 on a manual transmission from a BHP point of view

I think the 2 litre only came out in 2005/6 and that seems to be 140 BHP

And I dont know if the 1.9 is still being made ?

BUt the 1.9 only seems to come in 105 BHP

Although, maybe they do things like VW where there may be a 1.9 TD "red I "or 2.0 "red I" which is more powerful

    From factory, 1.9 is 105BHP and 2.0 is 140 or 170.

1.9 is currently being replaced by a 1.6, so if you were ordering a new car from factory you'd only get the 1.6 or 2.0. If you're buying new from a dealer you'll probably find a 1.9 if you want one.

2.0 litre also has a 6 speed manual gear box as opposed to the 1.9 litre which has 5 forward gears.

The 1.9 TDi was more popular here as it was the cheapest diesel available in the range but it is pretty unrefined compared to the competition and really should not belong in a premium brand. Used 2.0 TDi model still carry a hefty premium over 1.9 TDi models though.

If buying from the UK you will find that they are quite the opposite and the majority of A3 diesels are 2.0 TDi and tend to be higher spec.

    So to sum up

1.9 TDI was made up to 2006 and ranges in power from 105BHP to 130 BHP

2.0 TDI started in 2006 and ranges in power from 140BHP to 170 BHP

1.9Tdi was available up until 3 weeks ago in the A3. Orders for build from week 43 (19th Ocotber) will get the 1.6Tdi 105bhp.

2.0Tdi was available at least as far back as July 04, possibly even further back. Only in 140bhp for quite a while, 170 available last year I think.
