The Irish Aviation Authority has said an Air Corps Pilatus PC9 aircraft has crashed at Crumlin East near Cornamona in Connemara, Co Galway.

The aircraft carrying a flight instructor and cadet were part of a flying training exercise of three aircraft that left Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel at 5.45pm.

The accident is believed to have happened shortly after 6pm this evening.

The two other aircraft have safely returned to Galway airport.

A number of local people reported seeing the aircraft in difficulty and preparing to make an emergency landing.

An Air Accident Investigation team from the Air Corps and Department of Transport have been dispatched to the area.

I thought they said the wreckage is found but the pilots are reported missing by the Air Corp.

Please god they managed to eject in time.

wishful thinking, don't think the Pilatus PC9 (which is what they are probably flying), has an eject facility, but i hope i am so so wrong on that one. Its a very tough time, my next door neighbour who was a pilot in the air corps was killed in waterford in july 1999 on a rescue mission, it was so tough for those families, witnessed it first hand. Hopefully they found some way out of it, my prayers are with them

    Go mairidis beo

Edit: They do have an ejector seat so hope to go they got out, fingers crossed

So sad. My thoughts are with the family. Imagine the pain they are feeling.

Very sad.....and very eerie as it was announced on the news tonight right after the "Rescue" programme on RTE which also featured an air corps helicopter crash in 1999. :(

That's odd...I thought this thread was locked a minute ago.

Anyway, how do they not know if the servicemen are alive or not? The area isn't big and a helicopter has been scrambled, or is the army keeping it under wraps?

But FFS cop on and move this to military

Well that's just it, they don't.

So there is the chance they ejected and therefore some hope.

Its dark and its a relatively inaccessible area, that would probably explain it.

Do you know what, I am going to close this rather than move it as there is a thread already there.

For anyone who wants to follow up on this, here is the Link.
