Trying to Restore Dell 6400

Hi all i'm trying to restore a Dell Inspiron 6400 to it's factory settings but it's proving impossible. There's a c and d drive, the d drive has the factory settings and there's a pcrestore.exe file there which goes so far then comes up with an error message. I've tried F8 while booting but there's no system repair option, ctrl and F11 doesn't work either, can anyone help, running vista with service pack 1 by the way.

but it just mentions F8 / CTRL F11...which you've already tried, apart from that I've nothing else to offer, except to suggest that you throw the service tag into http://support.euro.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=ie&l=en&s=dhs and see if there's any docs specific to your system

Well i ran a diagnostics on it and it's giving me the error code 2000-0146 for the hard drive, which i've googled and it seems the hard drive needs to be replaced so that could explain why the F8 and F11 options won't work.
