Job Seekers Allowance - out of country

    Hey,

Any help much appreciated. I will be out of the country this Thursday to collect my weekly job seekers' allowance which right now is temporarily provided by the Eastern Health Board until my appointment with the social welfare officer.

Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away and I need to travel to Boston tomorrow morning where she lived. My family are going over and my father has motor neuron disease and needs me to go to enable him to travel. So I guess my point is that I'm not just missing Thursday on a whim. I'll be returning to Ireland on Sunday.

Does anyone know if I miss a payment what happens? I remember hearing once that if you're out of the country, you lose your payment right but this feels unfair. Does anyone know anything about this? It feels really harsh that I get penalised €200 for going to a funeral but is this really the case? I went to the eastern health board this morning but because I only realised this problem late this morning, they were closed when I went down as their opening hours are so restrictive (10-11:30). They won't be open by the time I board my flight tomorrow. I left a message with the receptionist but I didn't get a call yet.

Any help much appreciated on this.
    Thanks.
