I finally got around to seeing this on Sky Movies last night. I had missed it when it was out in the cinema and thought I'd wait until it was on sky. I think Seth Rogen is a funny guy and Judd Apatow has been involved with some decent comedies in various capacities. So, my hopes were good for it. Now, was Pineapple Express supposed to be a comedy? I turned the TV off about an hour and a quarter into it. I just couldn't find it funny at all. In fact it was just boring the crap out of me. I just couldn't find the characters or situations they got into all that funny. It was trying so hard to be humourous and for me when a film is trying that hard to make you laugh it just fails so bad. Easily the most disappointing film I've seen this year, as I had my hopes up that it would be great.

I agree 100%. Went to see it in the cinema and I didnt laugh once. Loved Knocked up and 40 year old virgin so thought this would be good but it was terrible.
I know Im committing sacrilege here by saying this (because I know a lot of people liked the hangover) but I think pineapple express and the Hangover were two of the worst films Ive seen in a long time.

I thought the first part of Pineapple express was funny up until it turned into a bad action spoof that completely fell flat. It's a shame because James Franco's character had the potential to be a lot funnier.

there is a certain amount of shared experiential social cognition needed to fully understand Pineapple express.

I thought it was hilarious. The opening was poor, but once it got going it was great.

I tried that too, it still wasn't funny after they hung out in his apartment.

my narc bait worked, you've been reported to the relevant authorities ;)

I felt the second half was somewhat reminiscent of what someone actually baked might write. I will agree though that the first and second half feel very disjointed. The first half feels grounded in reality, whereas the second half goes OTT very fast. It had a sense of someone writing a film script and getting progressively more and more stoned as he went along.

I was pretty baked while watching it tbh, but I still found it boring.

    I Thought it was brilliant.

BTW this is produced by Apatow but not directed. Both Knocked up and 40 YOV are directed by him.

It cannot be compared to the above, that's like comparing aliens to die hard. Both great but different.

The premise is excellent, throw two lazy stoners into a situation they should never be in and watch the results.

The end scene is comic genius.

Did you watch the trailer and find it funny? Because the trailer is a very accurate depiction of the entire movie. I don't see what you expected to be different?

    Brilliant!

I liked the film. I didn't find it particulary funny but it was entertaining, except for the hideous looking female cop! but Amber Heard was in it to make up for that abomination.

I honestly can't remember the trailer for the film. I really couldn't find anything remotely funny about the film. It really hit me how unfunny it was during the scene after they've found out they are in trouble and hide in the woods at night. That whole 5 or 10 minutes was brutal. It was like the writers were thinking, 'Lets get them to throw the phones away, yeah!! how about run around in the dark and fall over a log? sure!! Talk some stoned crap?? awesome!! Man that sounds hilarious!' Actually it was painfully forced, contrived and as funny as sunday mass. Everything up until that and after it was just as bad.

It's easy to compare Aliens to Die Hard, they're by far the two best action movies from the 80s :D (Aliens wins though obv)

Really, have you thought that through. They are different. One is a sci fi with suspense through out, while i will also admit it has action sequences as well. It is a sci fi, just like blade runner, while die hard is out and out action movie. The only way it could have been more action is it it had chuck norris and steven segal in it. Now that would have been a movie!!

But that is my point these movies are not directly comparable. Sure you can compare toy story to mulholland drive, but its not a true, direct and fair comparison. 40 YOV is an out and out comedy, knocked up get a little more romantic, but still out and out comedy. While PE has comedic elements (although some of you seem to dispute this), it is a buddy action comedy.

Why not compare superbad with the life aquatic, i mean they are two of the best comedies of the 00's!!!! As a laugh a minute Superbad wins hands down, but is it better? (ritorical, i don't care about your opinions on this, although I'm sure some know it all will tell me why im wrong even though i haven't stated a preference)

Why must we compare movies. They can stand alone.

While I understand that PE is not everyones cup of tea, I don't know why anyone who didn't enjoy it went in the first place. I would call into question your judgement, what did you think was going to happen. The trailers, poster, all marketing for this movie was spot on. I would imagine that if it was not what you were expecting than you should do a little more digging before you make decisions.

While this can not be said for all movies, this film in particular could not have done more what it said on the tin.

I cant believe we're giving so much discussion time to a crap film like the Pineapple express. Kubrick must be turning in his grave.........
