I’m to pay a solicitor for the service of his having written & sent a letter concerning a legal matter. Can I ask for the following from the solicitor:
    - A receipt
    - A breakdown of the costs involved in writing the letter.
    - A copy of the letter.

    Thanks.

indeed yep - no different from anyone else you engage to do something for you professionally...and one can ask for his/her estimate of fees prior to them doing it.

I see no problem in asking for a receipt and a copy of the letter but why do you need a breakdown. If all s/he done for you was write a letter then surely you can take it the charge is for writing the letter?

    Itemised Bill of Costs :

    - to write letter and purchase ink and place that ink in a pen with which to draft letter and to use pen on paper so as to frame draft letter and to dictate contents of draft letter and to review typed copy draft letter and make amendments thereto and to review final version and to sign same and to include ink further used thereby and to include placing draft letter in addressed envelope and to address envelope and to arrange for transmission of envelope with inserted letter with ink thereon by postal system and to advise of progress in each regard and in respect of each stage and to take instructions at each stage of the process : [insert amount]

    something like that dazza ?

    LMAO:D

Dont forget the fee for initial consulatation/meeting and taking instructions and phone calls.

Since you paying for time, I'd say ask for a break down of the time spent on your file and who carried out the work, ie trainee, legal sec, etc.

If you were a once off client and I knew you wouldn't be back i'd charge you fully between 100 and 200 euro depending on how long i spent on your file.

Dont be afraid to challenge your solicitor about the charge and make him an offer. Or just turn up with what you think is reasonable and give it to him with a letter!

Bugger I thought it was just a breakdown of the letter process. I would never make a solicitor.
