Done it to a car before and got 2 years out of it. I think it cost me over €1000. Would not do it again, you be better of scraping the car and buying a newer one. Other parts might go after doing the engine, thats what happed to me ;)

That was a bad rebuild then.

Anyone that knows there stuff will be able to break apart the engine and replace any parts that are worn as well as the rings that are gone causing the oil to get into the combustion chamber.

It will cost a lot more than €1k for a proper rebuild.

Theres a guy over on dtdirl.com called paddy4door he is located near finglas and is well respected as one of the best mechanics to work on a VTEC, joining up over there and sending him a pm might be your best bet to find out much it will cost.

I've got an engine rebuilt (block worn so +40" oversize needed) and the list of stuff that went into it was

Block cleaned, tested & bored +40" oversized
    new +40" Pistons
Crank & rods cleaned and balanced
New con-rod bolts, mains caps bolts, flywheel bolts & head bolts
    new oil pump
    new water pump
    New timing chain & adjuster
Head overhauled (valve stem oil seals, pressure tested etc)
    New cam
    New rocker posts
    New head gasket
    Complete engine seal kit
New Clutch & release bearing (worth doing as the engine's out)
    New fan belt

The Engine was built over 4 days and was "dry" built a few times to check different clearances as it was a performance engine (6K for parts alone).

The above list is what has to be changed in an engine re-build in by book, either standard or performance. This is what you'll be paying for, as well as labour. If the car is of extreme sentimental value, get it done. If it's "just a car" - send it to the great scrapyard in the sky.....
