Chipped tooth

    Hi,

I'm after chipping my front tooth and I don't know if I need a crown or a cap or what..I didn't keep the broken piece. It's not a massive chip either

I don't want to ask about pricing - and I don't want to go up north or abroad. My local dentists always do a good job and I believe a job well done is worth a few euro.

I want to know also (i'm going to ask my dentist next week) do I need to pay for everything up front or can I pay my dentist over time? Like I may also need a root canal and I won't have 600euro up front for that..

    Thanks

My brother took a big chip off his front tooth a few years back, I think he just got it capped & nobody would be none the wiser, looks like it did before... dont think they are too expensive, similar to a filling as far as I know?!

I hear ya on the good dentist part, I went to a guy in Dundrum for years and he was horrible and unproffessional and argumentative, hated getting him on a bad day, his mood reflected on his work - the worse that was, the more pain I would be in!!!
I had some fillings with him there about 2 years ago and had to get them redone a few months later with my new dentist in Cabinteely (Who is great by the way, but alot more expensive - Definately worth it though!!! DEFINATELY!!)

Moral of the story: your better off paying the money & going to a proffessional, as it ended up costing me double in the end!!

Not too sure about the root canal payments, they can prob work out a payment plan for you, some places do this. Get in contact with your dentist & see what their policy is on that, if you have been with them a while i'm sure you can pay monthly installments

Thanks, I'm actually moving to a new dentist so not sure if they'll allow me to do a payment plan but I will update the thread on Monday after I find out.

funky flea it sounds like it might just need a small white filling., fingers crossed.

That'd be brilliant if it was just that, I had that done before years ago on a similar chip!

I'll update the thread for future reference when I find out.

They're going to repair it as a small filling.. woo!

And it's covered under my PRSI.. so cheaper!

Ok my wisdom teeth are giving me trouble, and I may need to see an oral surgeon to have them removed.

How much will this cost roughly? Am not covered by anything (vhi etc).. around €300 per tooth?

Also, there's a problem tooth that I can't remove cos it could affect my sinuses.. so another option i've been given is braces.

How long do these normally last? Can I get braces on the back of my teeth? Cos they are a bit unsightly.. and how much should I expect to pay over the term, about €5000?
