3 or Vodafone???

My contract with 3 is due for renewal, I wasnt planning on renewing with them because I have been having a few problems with the lately (mainly speed and lose of connection) They rang me today and offered me a new stick that has speed of 7.2mbs for €49 and then €18 every month. They are posting it out to me for a trail which I have for 7 days. He said that the speed shouldnt be a problem with this new one.

However, I can get broadband for the same speed from Vodafone for €19.99 a month but the modem is free, therefore I am saving €49.

The only difference I can see is that 3's allowance is 15gb wheres Vodafone's is 10gb.

Any thoughts?? Should I stick with 3 or go with Vodafone????

    Thanks

The modem will make absolutely no difference to the speed, that was a lie. If you're having problems now, then they will continue.

By the by, contracts don't renew at the end of your minimum term, but some operators will try and sucker you into another 12 months by offering some gimmick like a new modem (which does nothing unless your current modem is broken). Don't be fooled by it.

I'd pick Vodafone in a heartbeat, over Three.

Send that new modem straight back, and cancel your direct debit in the bank, if you're canceling. If you get Vodafone, it'll be up and running almost straight away. You may need to give 28 days notice to Three when you cancel, but you should continue to receive service during this period, so no need to buy Vodafone just yet.

    edit
All current modems support up to 7.2Mbps already, even the E220 which was the first on the market. If your current modem doesn't support it, a firmware upgrade would do it.

    Thanks for that.

The way the guy put it to me was that there was a problem with the old stick I have and that they were getting rid of them. He said that if I got the new one (at the price of €49) then my speeds would be increased.

I think I will ring them back and tell them I dont want it and give Vodafone a go and see what they are like

What was the old modem? An E220? There's nothing wrong with the old ones, if there was, they'd be replacing them for free. This is nothing short of a sales lie.

If you were having no problems, I'd say stick with Three. If the problems are particularly bad, no connection or very poor speeds, then change. Bare in mind though, that depending on location and coverage, it may not be any better with Vodafone. But whatever you do, don't waste any money on a useless modem upgrade.

I also had problems with 3 connection as the 12 month contract was almost finished and they also wanted to sell me a knew stick etc. Changed to O2 and found them much better the customer service from 3 leaves a lot to be desired especially if you're having problems.

Thanks for all your help and advice.

I rang 3 there and told them about the better offer I could get with Vodafone. So they have agreed €19.99 a month and I dont have to pay the €49!!!! So gona give them another go and see how it works. I was told yesterday I have 7 days and I havent been made sign anything yet (wonder could I get away with not signing a contract!!!)

Fingers crossed it works well but just goes to show that if you dont ask then you dont get!!!

i just cancelled my 3 mobile broadband,it only took 2 weeks ,i kept gettin excuses as to why the cancellation department was busy ,but i kept phoning them and they kept offering me new modems that my old one was the prob, huawei E220 (which has the new 7.2mbps software).they offered me €10 credit to my account. They tried everything but put a phone mast outside my window for my own personal use and tried to sucker me into a new contract but i persisted with the sentence im canceling my account with you.ive already cancelled my derict debit with the bank.

now where do i gofrom here ,vodafone ,o2 or nthell

sorry if you have already switched to vodafone ..i am using this service over a month and it is a DISGRACE!!! 7.2mbs is a lie their network is definately not that speed their software is constantly screwing up having to restart it takes an age speeds in the day are as low as 10 kbs download highest is 60-70 the only time you will get good speeds is after midnight u will get about 300 kbs download speed which is no use if you want to dwonload during the day .. three would be my choice i know some1 in the same area as me using three and the speeds are at 340 kbs all day at night it downlaods at 1mbs which is great god love any other person who joins the scam of a network vodafone

I wouldn't reccomend mobile boradband to anyone, but if you have to get it, I would reccomend you go eith Voadfone. They have reliable service, unlike 3. I tried both of them out and Vodafone was much better, in every way. 3 doesn't connect half of the time (from my experience) and it's software has a substantial amount of compatibility problems with other programs.

They do, just not everywhere, but then none of the operators have nationwide 7.2Mbps, from what I can see.

1 in a thousand users may have a good experience, but it would appear that this is not he majority case. Any mobile 3G service will be guaranteed to have issue, by it's very design, but I've found Vodafone and O2 to be the best. Never tried Meteor though, but my experience of Three is pretty poor.
