I created a new A4 document in cs2. When I drag a photo into the new document it's in black and white. And I'm unable to get the colour back. What button etc might I have pressed that makes this happen?

Its really annoying because I've been trying the past two hours to figure it out but to no avail.

    Any solutions guys/girls?

    Cheers.

In PS there are so many different ways to do things, there are then multiples of those to stuuf it up too. So I really do not have a good idea at all & without seeing it I am in the dark.

Could it be that you are only importing a channel, rather than the whole image?

Just a thought, for the document - go to "Image" - "Mode" and make sure that RGB Colour is selected. If that is not set to colour, any image that you drag in will be converted to greyscale.

You can check the image mode when you create the document.

Thanks guys....the above did the trick. Sorted!

One other silly question, but its been at me for ages. Is there any easy way of rotating photos(not in photoshop)?

For example I take 100 today and about 40 of them are in portrait fortmat. So when I go into my folder I have to control+click on the one's I want to rotate 90 degrees.

just wondered is there any way to auto rotate the photo's that need to be?

    cheers again.

I have Canon 5D and I have switched the auto rotation off, because it decreases the size of the pictures.
And to rotate the pictures, I am using LightRoom that makes it easy(ier) and you can rotate any amount of selected pictures.

I have a Nikon D80. I have the auto rotate function set to on, but when I import them onto laptop they are not rotated, which is what I was asking originally. I know it auto rotates them on camera, but would like to know any off camera way of doing this?

My ageing 350D automatically rotates the image depending on the position of the camera.
The D80 is a superior camera so I would imagine it has a similar feature.

Do you mean the JPEGs ThOnda, or RAW?

The in-camera auto rotation just sets a 'rotated' flag on the file though, right ? I didn't think it actually 'physically' rotated the file as you'd do in photoshop or anything.

If you open in raw doesnt it automatically rotate?

Why dont you just create an actio for it and batch process it.

Sure that would be the same hassle as control clicking all the photo's that needed to be rotated in the folder?

If I created an action and just batch processed the folder...then all the photo's in the batch would be rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise...which wouldn't solve the problem.

Yeah I have this turned on the whole time. It just means that the photo is auto rotated in playback mode on the camera. I'm on about when I import the photo's onto hard drive...they are not rotated.

    Even RAWs? Thats strange.

EDIT: p108 of this manual says:
    Auto Image Rotation
Photographs taken while On (the default option) is selected contain
information on camera orientation, allowing them to be rotated automatically
during playback ( 61) or when viewed in Capture NX (available
    separately; 123) or PictureProject. *
    * In continuous mode ( 36), orientation recorded for first shot applies to all images in same burst,
even if camera orientation is changed during shooting.
Camera orientation is not recorded when Off is selected. Choose this option when taking
photographs with the lens pointing up or down.

Perhaps CS2 doesn't support this feature. Have you updated your version of Camera Raw?
Do they work in Capture NX?

How do you update camera raw version? Would you need to get CS3 or CS4 to do it? How much to update camera raw if not?

Adobe have updates on their website.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
They are pricks about not supporting new cameras on older versions of Photoshop when they're bringing out a new version tho.
