2 ipods can work with itunea and you can set different oreamiters for each device. Only one copy of itunea is required

While that is true, I find the best and easiest thing to do is to create a separate user account on the computer.

No mess, no fuss. That way each person has their owen music library and preferences.

Surely the 'no mess, no fuss' approach would be to plug the ipod into the existing account. iTunes is incredibly adaptable to having multiple iPods in use & manages the music in a very straight forward way.

Also, by not having multiple user accounts on the computer, you minimise maintenance & storage requirements, keeping the computer running better...

That's fair enough. But would you want your mother, wife, girlfriend or anyone else messing with your main admin account?

Potentially doing something on iTunes and messing up your music library?

    I know I wouldn't...I guess we'll have to agree to disagree ;)

Good point. I set a shared folder to store music files and back up every month to an external hard drive.

It will just upgrade the version of iTunes you have now. The newest iPods insist on having the latest update, but then you need to consider whether to create a new account / library for her or add her stuff to your own.
