Fight with opel over the cost. They may well supply the parts free if you have a full history and if you could do some research and find that this is a know fault. Thats a scandalous amount to be forking out on an astra

why would it put you off... you actually think any other manufacturer would step up after two years past end of warranty...

but if you want to cut costs, geta second hand unit for a breakers..

Opel are one of the best manufacturers for giving goodwill for out of warrranty claims. For most parts they will only stretch to the 3rd year, but some bigger parts they will cover after 4 years.

It doesn't look like the ESP control unit is one of the parts which usually goes.

Yip thats answer I got from Opel as regards goodwill, also one from a breakers yard will not work as each one (control unit) is paired to the engine ECU plus Opel will not programme one if got from a breakers yard...still dissappointed with them for not helping me out, yes this part failure seems to be rare enough unless you own a VW....
Should I bother and just leave light on and take hit on selling??????

yea thought of that andd will try next week, still will be silly money for getting ESP fixed when ABS works fine....all I want is the light off on the dash and is alot of money for that to be honest!!!! car is perfect apart from that.......aaaggghhhh.

Hi ya, in the end it cost me 2000euro to get fixes, new ESP pump had to be replaced and programmed, no way around it even a second hand one will not work and it would fail NCT so yip you will have to bite bullet my freind I tried everything, apart from take light out but thats not an option either as its run off a bank of LED's!!!!

Sorry to hear you have that problem,I probably would not buy another opel because of it!!!
