If you want to see some extra ordinary drill, you tube this :

1985 Royal tournament the Queens colour squadron RAF

like no other, but they are a fulltime drill/ceremonial unit.

Impressive yes, but comes across as a bit arrogant/flash/showbiz. Is it drill or a circus act ?

Queens colour squadron RAF, total class. standard drill moves from manual.

If I was that good I would be a bit arrogant bout it:p

I have always prefered the USMC drill platoon though,I think it being done without a band sounds(or dosent sound!)amazing!

Mind you the RAF one is impressive.

It has extremelly neat and impressive foot drill in between the rifles. It dosent have to serve a useful purpose to be impressive.

You could call the RAF drills a circus act too. After all they serve no pratical military purpose and are only performed purely for show.

How can standard Drill manual moves, which the RAF QCS do be a circus act. They are standard drill moves.

Throwing rifles up in the air, walking like Michael Jackson etc, is showbiz not drill, cause it has no military purpose.

In terms of actual drill movements, ie not throwing/catching rifles/moonwalking etc the QCS holds the world record.

"The Queen’s Colour Squadron regularly forms the Queen’s Guard at Buckingham Palace and other Royal residences. Other important Duties such as repatriation and military tattoos feature heavily in the QCS programme. Additionally the Squadron is world-renowned for its continuity drill displays and holds the world record for the most number of drill movements performed in 24 hrs following a single word of command."

We will agree to disagree then!

Calling it showbiz is a huge injustice to the men who put hours upon hours of work into them drills. At the end of the day I would much prefer to watch the Marines than the British(Not taking anything away from the British)

What is it with Irish units marching past heads of state to drinking songs :D ? I heard "whiskey in the jar" at trooping of the colour this year, at the national day of commemoration in 2007 a PDF battallion marched past the president to finnegans wake. I imagine "garryowen" has been played in the presence of manys a US president.............
