Hey! I brought up a wireless router thingy to halls and thoguth I could get wireless. I'm quite computer literate but know nothing about the technical side of things! When i have it all plugged in the only page I get is the intiall halls sign up page but I can't re-sign up with my own account or username. does anyone know away around it?

There's only wireless in Cunningham house AFAIK.

You have to buy one of those ethernet cable yokes, they're €5 in the SU shop (Or alternatively, can be stolen from A_Neurotic...;)) and plug your laptop in at your desk.
And then you have to sign into the network every time with your username and password.

Also, msn and skype don't work here, but my friend managed to get msn working for me the other night (Although it now won't work again :()..
You have to like, go around proxy settings or something.

    Basically, it's a load'a effort and I can't have laptop-in-bed times at'all.

Msn and skype work for me;)

But you can't redistribute the internet connection afaik in halls. So your wireless router is basically useless unless you want to set up a network for your music etc.

Yeah, I've done that! I even set up my friend's one here, but for some reason mine won't work. Even though it was working last week. BAD TIMES.

Should be possible given the correct proxy settings.

    proxya.tcd.ie port 8080

To be honest, I think you can have wifi
{but I've not tested this, but theoretically I think it's possible, so this is merely an opinion not a satement of fact}.

But a router will not work, as you cannot connect a router to an internet connection via LAN, they're not designed for that{this is why you could connect to the TCD website}. You need a Wifi broadcaster {not sure if thats the right name, but anyhow}, they're the same things you see in lecture halls, the GMB, anywhere that has wifi really, they're the white things on the wall with the {green?} LED circle.

Or, you could simply use another computer that has an ethernet card and wifi capabilities, hook it up to your port via ethernet, and start a new wifi network on that PC, and then either bridge the connections or set up ICS { internet connection sharing (windows)} or IP masquerading(Linux)}.

You could even start selling wifi to the people living in your House, and make a fortune {But I wouldn't say you'd be allowed somehow... } but I dont condone this, unless you asked permission from the Warden first.

    Tried ICS. Epic fail.
